Leeds United latest: West Brom blow chance to go top, suspension boost, Berardi warning

Another midweek round of fixtures are over and Leeds United's attention will now switch to Saturday's Elland Road clash against Cardiff City.

Leeds go into the weekend on the back of a seven match winning streak and an 11-point buffer between them and the sides jostling for third place.

Marcelo Bielsa will face the media this lunchtime at Thorp Arch, but before that here is a look at the latest Leeds United headlines...

West Brom

Leeds United remain top of the Championship after West Brom were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom-three side Wigan Athletic.

Marcelo Bielsa's men edged ahead of the the Baggies on Tuesday night when they saw off Hull City at Elland Road, with West Brom knowing a win 24 hours later would see them return to the summit.

But it didn't pan out that way. Here's how Leeds fans reacted.

Suspension boost

Two of Leeds United’s upcoming opponents, Fulham and Preston North End , will have players after unavailable after both sides were reduced to ten men last night.

Referee Keith Stroud officiated a feisty and ill-tempered affair at Deepdale, in which Alex Neil’s Preston ended their poor run of form to beat Fulham 2-1.

Both sides are now level on 35 points, 11 points behind Leeds following their 2-0 victory over Hull City on Tuesday evening.

Fulham right-back Denis Odoi was shown red for dangerously leading with an elbow, before Stroud levelled things up on the stroke of half time by dismissing Preston left-back Joe Rafferty for a dangerous challenge.

Both players will now serve a three-match suspension, meaning that the two promotion-chasers will be missing first-choice full-backs over the festive schedule, including their clashes with Leeds.

Berardi warning

Gaetano Berardi is not getting too concerned about the Championship table after Leeds United opened up an 11-point gap over third place with Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Hull City.

Last season, it was the Tigers that ended a seven-match winning streak for Leeds as Jarrod Bowen scored a brace in a 2-0 win at Elland Road.

But there was a sign of progress as Leeds kept Bowen quiet to maintain their winning streak this time around, keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet in the process.

Here's what Berardi had to say about the gap - with a word of warning for his teammates.
