Leeds United latest: Forshaw replacement, Lee Johnson verdict, fixture comparison

Leeds United are back in action tomorrow when they host Bristol City as they look to return to winning ways after picking up just one point from their last nine available.

As Marcelo Bielsa and his players go about their final preparations, here is a look at the latest Leeds United headlines...

Why no Forshaw replacement was brought in

Transfers to replace injured Adam Forshaw at Leeds United in January were not considered because of the cost and level of midfielder required.

Head coach Marcelo Bielsa addressed the matter of Forshaw’s hip surgery in Thursday’s press conference after it had been announced the midfielder’s season was over.

Forshaw went under the knife on Thursday in Colorado and will now look to return to action in pre-season ahead of 2020/21.

Lee Johnson on Leeds' dip

Lee Johnson has had his say on Leeds United’s poor run of form heading into Bristol City’s next trip to Elland Road on Saturday.

The Robins are on top of the league’s form table with five wins from their last six matches while United’s run stretched to two wins from their last 11 outings on Tuesday night.

Bristol win on Saturday would see the teams tied on 56 points, less than six weeks after the gap, at its biggest, stood at 14 points on New Year’s Day.

Johnson’s side would need other results to go their way to break into the play-off places on Saturday evening, however.

Here's what he said about the clash

Bielsa transcript

Marcelo Bielsa faced the media on Thursday lunchtime as he previewed Saturday's Elland Road clash against Bristol City.

High on the agenda was the form of Kiko Casilla, while the Leeds United head coach also discussed Adam Forshaw's injury, the under-18s side and more.

Fixture comparison

The month of February has been a ridiculously busy one for the Championship.

Leeds United alone have seven matches in the year's shortest month, which will go a long way to defining how the end-of-season shake-up.

Sitting halfway through the month, Leeds remain in the top two, but only just.

Fulham have drawn level on points with Marcelo Bielsa's side, but the Whites are three goals better off on goal difference.

Brentford and Nottingham Forest are two points worse off, while Preston and Bristol City are a point further behind in a promotion race which looks like going down to the wire.

But in a league which is all about momentum, how do the rest of February's fixtures for the promotion hopefuls look? How has the easiest ride? And who's schedule is toughest?
