Leeds United latest: Bamford warning, Meslier progress, Cooper message

Danny Mills has sent Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa a warning about Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper has addressed United's high-stakes tactics and momentum going into the final third of the season, while Illan Meslier is coming on leaps and bounds at Thorp Arch.

Here is a look at the latest Leeds United headlines...

Marcelo Bielsa told to drop "superb" Leeds striker Patrick Bamford

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has urged Marcelo Bielsa to drop Patrick Bamford.

The Whites' number nine has scored in just one of his last 10 matches.

However, the 26-year-old has remained a first-choice pick for Bielsa, who appears to value the other attributes he brings to the starting XI equally to his goal return.

January addition Jean-Kevin Augustin is yet to start for Leeds since his arrival and has been limited to three appearances from the bench.

'One pass away from a hammering' - Cooper issues Leeds warning

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has cautioned his team-mates to keep their intense focus on their promotion challenge, warning that they can always be "one pass away from getting a hammering".

The Whites skipper was on rock-solid form as they earned a first win in four against Bristol City on Saturday, to give themselves a three-point cushion inside the top two of the Championship.

United welcome mid-table stragglers Reading to Elland Road this weekend looking for their first consecutive victories of 2020, but Scotland international Cooper says that his side must shut out criticism on their form and keep their eye on the bigger picture.

Illan Meslier's ranking underlines what Leeds United fans think

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has been ranked as one of the most valuable young goalkeepers in European football.

The Frenchman, who arrived on an initial loan deal from Lorient last summer, is yet to make an appearance in the league for Leeds, but has received widespread praise for his debut away to Arsenal in the FA Cup, alongside his regularly eye-catching displays for the Under-23s.

According to Transfermarkt’s transfer valuations, Meslier is the third most-valuable goalkeeper on the continent under the age of 21.

AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma tops the list by a considerable distance, having originally broken through at the age of just 16. He’s already into his fifth full season as a Serie A goalkeeper, with nearly 200 senior appearances under his belt already.
