Leeds United issue statement after FA launch investigation into discrimination claim following Charlton Athletic match

Leeds United have confirmed that they will be working the FA in their investigation into an allegation of discrimination during Saturday's Championship match at Charlton Athletic.

The club have issued a short statement acknowledging the allegation which was included in referee John Brooks' report following Leeds' 1-0 loss at The Valley.

"Leeds United are aware of an allegation made following our Sky Bet Championship game with Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Saturday," the statement reads.

"The club will be working with the FA during their investigation.

"We will be making no further comment at this stage."

This comes after the FA confirmed that an incident had been included in Brooks' report and that they would be investigating the matter further.

"An allegation of discrimination was included in the match official’s report following the Charlton v Leeds fixture on Saturday, 28 September and the FA is now investigating the matter,” said an FA spokesperson.

Charlton Athletic has also issued a statement on the matter, adding that an allegation of racial abuse was directed at Jonathan Leko.

That statement reads: "Charlton Athletic can confirm that an allegation of racial abuse directed at Jonathan Leko by an opposing player during Saturday’s game against Leeds United was reported to referee John Brooks.

"The Football Association are carrying out an investigation following the report.

"The club will support Leko throughout the process and will not be making any further comment until the investigation is concluded."

Following Saturday's match Charlton forward Macauley Bonne said:“There was one thing that happened today that I won’t mention until it comes out later.”

The defeat saw Leeds drop to fourth in the table ahead of tonight's match against West Brom at Elland Road.
