Leeds United in transfer talks with Bayern Munich for midfielder Michael Cuisance

Leeds have opened talks with Bayern Munich for French midfielder Michael Cuisance.

Leeds want to sign at least two more players before the transfer window closes on Monday, despite splashing out over £80million already this summer, and are targeting Cuisance.

Bayern only signed Cuisance last summer from Borussia Moenchengladbach and want around £18million for the France youth international.

Leeds are prepared to offer Cuisance, who idolised Zinedine Zidane as a kid, a five-year contract at Elland Road and it is understood a deal is possible.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick left Cuisance out of his squad for Sunday’s shock loss to Hoffenheim, claiming he had omitted him for tactical reasons.

Cuisance, 21, is seen as one of French football’s rising stars and Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic claimed the playmaker’s left foot “has music in it” when he joined the Bundesliga champions.

He won the fans’ Player of the Year in his first season with Moenchengladbach in 2017-18 and is a current Under-20 international.

Cuisance made just nine Bundesliga appearances last season but insisted he was pleased with his choice to move to the Allianz Arena.

“I don’t regret my decision," he told Eurosport ahead of the Bundesliga restart in May. "Why should I regret having moved to the best club in the world? It is still a dream to learn from all the stars at Bayern.”

“I came to watch. When my time comes, I will be ready to show my qualities. At the moment I am only focused on the end of the season with Bayern.

"We still have three titles to win. I don’t have time to deal with a possible loan. I have to take my chance when I get it.”

Elsewhere, Leeds are assessing a number of targets and are also interested in Norwich’s England Under-21 midfielder Todd Cantwell.
