Leeds United ignored as Sky Sports' pundits select their Championship player of the season

Sky Sports’ pundits have been debating who they believe has been the best player in the Championship this season.

Six pundits made their predictions, with former Leeds United player David Prutton, former professionals Don Goodman, Andy Hinchcliffe, Scott Minto, Keith Andrews and commentator Gary Weaver all weighing in on the discussion.

However, despite Leeds being top of the Championship table and challenging for promotion all season, none of the six pundits selected a Whites’ player as their player of the season.

Ex-Leeds midfielder Prutton was one of four pundits to select Brentford striker Ollie Watkins, alongside Weaver, Hinchcliffe and Minto.

Andrews selected West Bromwich Albion’s midfield playmaker Matheus Pereira whilst ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers striker opted for Fulham’s Serbian international striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Leeds were not completely ignored in the debate, with Prutton, Weave and Goodman all admitting that midfielder Kalvin Phillips came close to being their respective selection.

Prutton labelled Phillips as being “brilliant”, with Weaver calling him “excellent” and Goodman admitting that Phillips “has been the best player in the league.”

According to WhoScored.com, defender Luke Ayling has been the Whites’ best player in the Championship this season, but only ranks eighth across the entire division.
