Leeds United legend Vinnie Jones slammed by shocked football fans for his new film

Leeds United legend Vinnie Jones has come in for some criticism from football fans because of his latest film.

The hardman, 55, who has become a Hollywood star after hanging up his boots, has just finished filming on Rise of The Footsoldier: Origins.

Some of the shoot saw fake football supporters used for crowd scenes inside Southend United’s Roots Hall ground. Of course, because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, fans haven’t been allowed in English league football grounds for many months.

Some football fans have been left miffed by the images circulating on social media. Witnesses state around 50 extras went into one of the stadium’s stands.

They were wearing facemasks and then took them off when the scene started shooting.

As you might know, there’s been a huge clamour for the return of football fans to grounds across England. Although, there’s still no confirmed date for when supporters will be able to return, from the government, as the authorities continue to attempt to get the spread of the deadly disease under control.

Some football fans have been shocked by the images shared on Twitter of the new movie.

David Graham said: “That’s an insult to football supporters who pay to watch their team week after week and are being denied access to live matches.”

Callum Davis added: “So they can film a movie at a stadium but we can't go socially distanced and with masks on?”

It is worth noting, some didn’t think the two situations were comparable.

Ryan Young explained: “As someone who works in film I can confirm that every one of these people including the crew will have been tested before they arrived on set and continuously throughout production.”

Former Leeds United star Vinnie Jones played for Chelsea and Wimbledon, as well as representing Wales, before he turned to acting.

He’s appeared in Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and X-Men: The Last Stand amongst other flicks.

In the new Rise of The Footsoldier film, Vinnie, stars alongside Keith Allen, Craig Fairbrass and Katie Jarvis.
