Leeds United hit with fresh injury blow against Southampton

Marcelo Bielsa has been handed a fresh injury blow after Mateusz Klich limped off against Southampton.

The Polish midfielder, who was struggling with a hip injury earlier this month, was forced off after 59 minutes of the Elland Road clash, initially receiving treatment on the pitch before walking off holding his lower back.

Gjanni Alioski came on to replace him.

Following the defeat at Arsenal earlier this month Marcelo Bielsa admitted that Klich had played through the pain barrier at the Emirates, before he was replaced at half-time.

"I have to mention that Klich played whilst not being at 100 per cent," Bielsa said following the 4-2 defeat. "It was an act of generosity from his part. It was another difficulty we had to endure throughout the first half. I value a lot that he sacrificed himself to be able to start this game."

Klich then gave an update following the match.

"It's getting better," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "I had some struggles with my hip, but it should be fine."

"I was on painkillers, but it wasn't that bad," he added. "It's not something that was a very big issue. But obliviously every little pain is just annoying and it doesn’t really help but that wasn’t the reason why I couldn’t play better."

Bielsa will likely give an update on the midfielder and whether or not it is the same problem following the match.
