Leeds United hero Ian Harte sends classy message to Niall Huggins after debut against Arsenal

The newest player to represent Leeds United in the Premier League has been sent a congratulatory message from one man who knows exactly what it takes to succeed at Elland Road.

Niall Huggins was summoned off the bench by Marcelo Bielsa at the Emirates Stadium - and proved to be a silver lining for the Whites in a losing cause against Arsenal.

It was the 20-year-old's first senior appearance for Leeds, following one previous outing for the club's Under-21s in the much-maligned EFL Trophy.

Huggins entered the fray with Leeds trailing 4-0 against rampant Arsenal, who were inspired by a return to form from hat-trick hero and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

As far as Leeds are concerned, though, they were handed another bright look into the future after Huggins became the 842nd player to pull on the famous white shirt - much to the delight of one of the club's former heroes.

In a social media post on Instagram, ex-Leeds defender and now football agent Ian Harte, who played upwards of 200 league games for the club after progressing through the youth ranks himself, said: "So happy for Niall Huggins making his Leeds United and Premier League debut!!! Hopefully it's the first of many."

It was one of several positive messages directed towards Huggins, who received glowing praise from Leeds fans in the aftermath of the high-scoring 4-2 defeat in North London.

He signed a new contract at Elland Road towards the end of last year, with his freshly-penned deal running until the end of the 2022/2023 season.
