Leeds United news as Tite thanks Bielsa and Adams gives verdict on England World Cup clash

Here are your Leeds United headlines for November 24.

Tite thanks Bielsa

Leeds United were, undoubtedly, provided with value for money after signing Raphinha in the summer of 2020. However, it is not just the Whites who have reaped the rewards of his development.

During his first season in English football, the 25-year-old remarkably registered 15 direct goal contributions while adapting to his new surroundings and would win a first call-up to the Brazil national team.

Raphinha became an even more pivotal figure at Elland Road last season despite a dip in team performance level. He scored 11 goals and, almost single-handedly, provided Leeds with the inspiration to mount a successful battle against relegation.

Following two campaigns that were jam-packed with individual success, it was inevitable that some of the world's biggest clubs would come calling. Chelsea and Arsenal were both linked with moves to keep Raphinha in England, but Barcelona proved to be his desired destination.

Registering two goals and two assists in 13 La Liga outings, the former Rennes star has enjoyed a respectable start to life in Catalonia against a backdrop of financial disaster and fan disapproval.

Subsequently, Raphinha was named in Brazil's squad for the ongoing World Cup in Qatar and provided with the opportunity to enhance an impressive international record of five goals in 11 appearances.

After he netted a brace on debut just over a year ago, head coach Tite went on record to thank former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa for improving Raphinha's standard of performance.

Adams' England admission

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has played down the USA's chances of pulling off a shock victory over England on Friday evening, admitting his side are "underdogs."

Having drawn their opening fixture of the tournament against Wales after a Gareth Bale penalty cancelled out Tim Weah's effort, Adams and co can significantly boost their chances of progressing from Group B by beating the Three Lions.

However, such a task will be far from simple. Goals from Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish saw Gareth Southgate's team kick-off their campaign with a thumping 6-2 win over Iran and they can all but secure qualification for the knockout stages by beating the Stars and Stripes.

Aaronson on changing perceptions

Leeds United star Brenden Aaronson believes the perception of American players has changed in Britain, with the 25-year-old expressing his gratitude to former stars that previously appeared in the Premier League.

Aaronson, alongside US teammate Tyler Adams, has impressed for the Whites this season under compatriot Jesse Marsch and both players could feature in their nation's World Cup clash against England on Friday evening.

However, the early, and rare, presence of Americans in the top flight saw many view individuals with a stereotype that considered those from the States to know little about the game and be inferior to their UK counterparts.
