Leeds United headlines as Newcastle United star linked with Elland Road switch

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines.

Ryan Fraser 'interest'

Leeds United have been linked with a move for out-of-favour Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser. The Scotland international is set to leave Tyneside this summer having fallen out of the first-team picture last season. The former Bournemouth winger has been training with Newcastle's Under-21 squad after Eddie Howe removed from his first-team training, and is expected to move on.

He had been linked with a move to Southampton as part of deal to bring Tino Livramento to the Norh East, but with the Saints' pricetag seemingly too high, Fraser's future remains in the air.

The Sunday Mirror report that Leeds United are monitoring his situation. The 29-year-old only featured eight times for Newcastle last season, the last of those appearances coming in October 2022. He started Scotland's 2-1 friendly defeat to Turkey in November.

Hamer addresses future

Gustavo Hamer was one of the Championship's standout players last season. The Brazilian-born midfielder helped inspire Coventry City to the play-off final and the brink of promotion with nine goals and 10 assists. It's easy to see why Leeds United would want to try and lure him to Elland Road. The Whites have been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old.

Daniel Farke is set to oversee a squad revamp ahead of the push for a return to the Premier League. A number of players are at the centre of transfer speculation over moves out of the club, meaning it could be a very busy window for the new boss.

Hamer as a target makes sense for a relegated club. Still of a good age, he has already shown he has the ability to be one of the leading lights in this division, suggesting he is also ready for a step up. He addressed his future recently, where he revealed that there is one club, in particular, he would be unable to resist. He began his career at Feyenoord but failed to make the grade.

In the end, he had to make the difficult decision to depart and head to PEC Zwolle, before joining Coventry in 2020.

In an interview with Dutch outlet voetbalprimeur.nl, Hamer reflected on his time at the club. He said: "Giovanni van Bronckhorst was a trainer there at the time, but I don’t feel like I ever had any chances from him.

"Friends who were in the stands told me that the fans really asked for me, but I never played. I had to hear from the fitness coach that the more expensive players always had priority, and then I knew I had to leave."
