Leeds United headlines amid Raphinha's Real Madrid strike and Gelhardt reveals Marsch tactics

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Sunday, July 24.

Raphinha wins Clasico

Ex-Leeds man Raphinha scored a wondergoal through the night to help his Barcelona side beat Real Madrid 1-0 in Las Vegas. The Brazilian got his dream move to the Camp Nou last week, leaving West Yorkshire for around £55million.

And he is taking his chance, adding a beautiful winner against old rivals Madrid to a goal and two assists in his debut against Inter Miami. The 25-year-old received the ball on the edge of the box, controlling instantly before firing into Thibaut Courtois’ top corner.

Raphinha has had a dream start to life with the Blaugrana, scoring on his debut against Phil Neville’s Inter Miami and picking up two assists before last night’s winner. He is wasting no time in becoming one of Xavi’s most important players.

Gelhardt on Marsch tactics

Joe Gelhardt has opened up on what Leeds manager Jesse Marsch has been demanding from his strikers as the tour of Australia comes to an end. The 20-year-old featured regularly Down Under - scoring a powerful header against Brisbane Roar - and is expected to increase in prominence next season.

"We like to get wide and then get across the near post," he told Leeds United’s YouTube channel. “That's what we're told to do. It's good for strikers. He wants us in the right positions scoring goals. I like the tactics."

Gelhardt will be keen to improve on the two goals he scored last season and battle for regular minutes as he continues his development.

Minutes Down Under

Leeds United brought their pre-season tour of Australia to a close with Friday’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. The Whites also beat Brisbane Roar and lost to Aston Villa in a week that provided promise, but also plenty to work on.

Most important in pre-season, however, is minutes, and the majority of Jesse Marsch’s 26-man squad got plenty of football and came away unharmed. It was a summer signing who racked up the most minutes Down Under, with a couple of regulars close behind.
