Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa nominated for prestigious FIFA Coach of the Year award

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has been nominated for men's coach of the year in FIFA's The Best awards.

The awards, which started in 2016 following the end of FIFA's partnership with France Football over the Ballon d'Or, see coaches and players nominated for a host of categories to do with their achievements over the last year.

Bielsa has been include on the five-person shortlist for the best men's coach after leading Leeds to promotion back to the Premier League.

The shortlist was compiled by a panel of experts and based on coaches' achievements between July 2019 and October 2020.

Alongside Bielsa, Bayern Munich's Hansi Flick, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, Sevilla's Julen Lopetegui and Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane have also been nominated.

It is illustrious company for Bielsa to be alongside, with Flick, Klopp and Zidane all winning major league titles, with Lopetegui winning the Europa League.

Flick also won the Champions League with Bayern.

The shortlist will be whittled down to three finalists, with the winner being announced at FIFA's The Best awards ceremony in Zurich on December 17.

Whites fans will be able to have their say on who should win the award, with voting open to the general public.

Voting is weighted equally between fans, journalists, national team coaches and captains

Fans should visit FIFA's website in order to vote.

It is not the first time Bielsa and Leeds have been recognised in FIFA's The Best awards.

Bielsa and Leeds were last year named winners of the FIFA Fair Play award after allowing Aston Villa to score following a controversial goal when a Villa player was down injured.
