Leeds United have the last laugh in Twitter spat with former One Direction star Niall Horan

It would be an understatement to say that Leeds United fans enjoyed watching Frank Lampard's Derby County fall short in the Championship  play-off final on Monday.

Goals from Anway El Ghazi and John McGinn put Aston Villa in the driving seat at Wembley, while Rams substitute Jack Marriott's late goal proving to be a mere consolation as Dean Smith's men returned to the Premier League.

While Leeds were forced to watch the final from home following their defeat to the Rams, supporters were quick to remind Derby of their Elland Road celebrations earlier this month, when Lampard, his players and the club's fans wasted no time in bringing up the Spygate saga.

While a lot of these celebrations now look at tad silly, one of the Rams' most famous fans was also put back in his place by Leeds United's official Twitter account.

A Twitter spat between One Direction's Niall Horan and the Whites began in October, when the X-Factor reject tweeted 'no one likes Leeds,' only for the official Leeds account to hit back with a zinger.

'No one likes your solo career #BringBack1D', Leeds fired back, with the likes and retweets coming in their hundreds of thousands.

Horan used the play-off win at Elland Road to go in again earlier this month.

"Between @dcfcofficial and I we’ve played at Wembley more times in the last 12 years than you lot," he tweeted as Leeds took their medicine.

But seconds after the final whistle at Wembley, Leeds United have the last laugh.

"Hopefully you performed better than @dcfcofficial! See you next season! #StopCrying", was quickly posted from the official Leeds United account.

Next season's going to be lively, isn't it?
