Leeds United have surprise alternative to Watkins, Norwich City get their man - Championship rumours

Bristol City secured their second signing of the summer on Thursday with the arrival of striker Chris Martin on a free transfer.

However, head coach Dean Holden remains in the market for at least two more additions and there could be further Robins-related movement today.

Transfer activity is definitely hotting up across the divisions, and with that in mind here are the latest rumours concerning Championship clubs ...

Leeds won't wait for Watkins

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is emerging as a surprise transfer target for Leeds United, should the Whites end their pursuit of Brentford's Ollie Watkins.

Bees forward Watkins is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Tottenham and Leeds but that level of interest is driving his price up.

Having spent a club record fee on Rodrigo from Valencia, Football Insider claim that Leeds may not elect to try and loan Batshuayi, who is far down the pecking order at Chelsea.

Canaries closing in on Gibson

Ben Gibson's Burnley torment is set to be over with the centre-back agreeing a move to Norwich City, report the Sun.

Gibson has been out of favour at Turf Moor for the last 18 months but after holding talks with Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough has elected to move to Carrow Road.

The former Boro centre-back earned an England call-up in 2017 but after moving to Burnley in 2018, he's stood still. With Norwich expected to compete for automatic promotion, Gibson has a chance to reignite his career.

Hornets sell Doucoure

Watford are set to be £22m better off with Abdoulaye Doucoure's long-awaited move to Everton set to be confirmed.

The defensive midfielder has signed a four-year contract at Goodison Park, according to the Daily Mail, and could be announced today in what will be one of the latest Championship to Premier League transfers in history.

Doucoure, who joined Watford from Rennes in 2016, has long been coveted by Everton manager Carlo Ancelott.

Leeds keen on rising Swans starlet

Wales Online report that Leeds United have identified Swansea City starlet Ben Cabango as a potential option.

The young Welshman’s stock has risen greatly after a breakthrough year at the Swans that saw him make 23 Championship appearances and earn a call-up to the senior Wales squad.

Leeds are said to be big fans of the 20-year-old and have put him high on their list of preferred targets this summer.

Preston target Villa forward

The Sun’s Alan Nixon says Preston North End are keen on a loan move for Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis.

It has been a quiet summer transfer window at Deepdale so far but, after being outscored by all but two sides in the top half of the Championship last season, there may be a need for more firepower in Alex Neil’s side.

Davis, 22, was a bit-part player for Villa last season so may be loaned out for more first-team experience.
