Leeds United have already made 'important' signing ahead of January transfer window

Crucial signings may be ahead for Leeds United in the January transfer window, but chief executive Angus Kinnear has lauded the importance of a signature already made at Elland Road this month. In the same week Mark Jackson departed for Milton Keynes Dons, Kinnear talked up how fitting it was one of his former students signed a long-term deal with Leeds.

Pascal Struijk committed his future to the Whites until 2027 last week and as one of those who is expected to make it to the top by the coaching staff, the Whites supremo is delighted. Kinnear was writing in the club’s programme ahead of Manchester City’s visit.

“It (Jackson’s exit) was fitting in the same week one of Mark’s proteges signed a well-deserved contract extension,” wrote Kinnear. “Pascal Struijk is as unassuming as he is talented and has been a consummate professional since he joined the club.

“The coaching staff believe he can reach the very top levels of the game, which make it even more important he has committed the next phase of his career to Elland Road.”

The Leeds faithful are hopeful Struijk and Diego Llorente’s contracts will not be the last signatures committed to paper at Elland Road in the next five weeks. There is an immense appetite for a left-back and a striker before January ends.
