Edinson Cavani has offered up a promising update on his future amid transfer links with Leeds United.
The Uruguayan forward is a free agent after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired in June.
Cavani has been linked with the Whites but recent reports suggested there has been a setback for the Championship winners.
Leeds would massively benefit from having the 33-year-old on board for their Premier League return but according to Record in Portugal, Cavani is set to sign a two-year deal with Benfica.
However, the man himself played down those reports when speaking with the media in Uruguay this past weekend.
"There were meetings with Benfica and other clubs. But nothing is yet defined, so I cannot say that there is a closed agreement. When everything is confirmed with a team, they will know it," Cavani told the press.
Whilst it's a boost for Leeds that Cavani has confirmed a deal is yet to be officially completed, it's also a positive sign for Benfica that the former PSG man has confirmed the existence of talks.
Meanwhile, Leeds continue to be on the lookout for a forward who can help lift the burden on Patrick Bamford, who carried the load last season.
Bamford bagged 16 goals in the Championship for Marcelo Bielsa's men but was criticised at times for missing chances aplenty.
