Leeds United handed potential Ben White transfer boost as Brighton make defender decision

Ben White is one of Leeds United ’s top transfer targets this summer.

The Brighton defender spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Elland Road, and impressed so much in his performances that he has become the subject of a transfer tug of war between clubs.

The Whites are pushing hard to make the transfer happen, but have come up against a resistant Brighton, who are determined to keep hold of their man.

Reports suggest that Leeds have had a third bid of £25 million plus add-ons rejected by the seagulls in recent days with the asking price said to be north of £50 million.

Leeds are not alone in showing interest in the central defender, with every one of the Premier League’s top six clubs said to have asked Brighton about his availability.

Another Brighton player who has been linked with a move away from the Amex this summer is club captain Lewis Dunk.

Chelsea were said to be interested in taking the 28-year-old to Stamford Bridge, any transfer for Dunk would have seen the White deal get harder to do for Leeds.

However, as reported by the Daily Mail , Brighton have convinced Dunk to stay for the long-term, with the defender putting pen to paper on a new five-year deal at the club.

The contract makes him the highest-paid player at the club and crucially ensures that the defender will not be moving on this summer.

That means that Brighton’s stance could now soften on White, giving Leeds a chance to make another move for the 22-year-old.

Dunk’s presence in the Brighton team will also mean reduced game time for the central defender, which could lead to him pushing for a move to a club where he is guaranteed starts. And that is something that Leeds could offer.
