Leeds United handed lucky charm as referee appointment announced for Cardiff City

Leeds United return to Championship action after their promotion rivals this weekend, taking on Cardiff City on Sunday.

The Whites threw away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 when the two sides met at Elland Road earlier in the season, much to the frustration of everyone involved from a West Yorkshire perspective.

As Marcelo Bielsa's side travel to South Wales, it has been confirmed that David Webb will be the man in the middle for the clash.

The referee has officiated seven Championship fixtures involving Leeds United already in his career, with the Whites losing only once.

With four wins and two draws coming in the other six games, a return of 14 points from seven games looks very healthy ahead of their match at the Cardiff City Stadium.

This season, he took charge of Leeds' 2-0 win over Hull City last year, whilst the only defeat came against Wolves at Elland Road in 2014.

Leeds will be hopeful that they will be backed by a sell-out crowd in Wales, although that could soon change.

UK government plans to play the remainder of the season behind closed doors due to the coronavirus have been revealed, which could come into action this weekend.

Equally, the USA postponed their friendly with Wales on Thursday, which was due to take place at the Cardiff City Stadium on March 30, which may raise further concerns about supporters travelling across the border.
