Leeds United handed Liam Cooper boost as skipper wins fitness battle for Brenford clash

Leeds United have been boosted by the availability of skipper Liam Cooper for tonight's clash against Brentford after the defender won his fitness battle.

Marcelo Bielsa had named Cooper as one of three doubts for the Elland Road match, alongside Gjanni Alioski and Barry Douglas, but the centre-back is fit for the visit of the Bees, as is Alioski.

Douglas, however, is absent and is replaced by the North Macedonian at left-back.

Kiko Casilla continues in goal, with Cooper continuing to partner Ben White at the back. Alioski is in for Douglas at left-back, meaning Stuart Dallas is again at right-back in Luke Ayling's continued absence.

Kalvin Phillips continues in midfield, occupying a central position with Adam Forshaw and Mateusz Klich in front of him. Jack Harrison and Pablo Hernandez are out wide, while Patrick Bamford continues up front following his two-goal performance at Wigan on Saturday.

That means loan signing Eddie Nketiah again has to settle for a place on the bench, while Jack Clarke misses out entirely as he again falls victim to the five loan player rule. Alfie McCalmont steps up to replace Alioski in the only change among the substitutes.

A win for Leeds should see them move back to the top of the table after Sheffield Wednesday moved two points clear last night when they beat Luton 1-0.

Pontus Jansson starts for Brentford and will wear the captain's armband for the Bees.

Leeds United: Casilla, Alioski, White, Cooper, Dallas, Phillips, Klich, Harrison, Forshaw, Hernandez, Bamford

Subs: Meslier, Berardi, Shackleton, McCalmont, Bogusz, Costa, Nketiah

Brentford: Raya, Henry, Piinnock, Norgaard, Canos, Jensen, Watkins, Jansson, Mbeumo, Dalsgaard, Jeanvier

Subs: Daniels, Thompson, Benrahma, Dasilva Forss Macondes, Racic
