Leeds United handed Kalvin Phillips blow during Tottenham Hotspur defeat

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips will miss the club's next Premier League match against Brighton after he picked up a late yellow card in the 3-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 25-year-old was shown his fifth caution of the Premier League season when he brought down Spurs substitute Carlos Vinicius in the final minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and as a result will now be forced to sit out the ELland Road clash against Bright which is scheduled to be played on Saturday January 16.

Phillips will be free to play in next weekend's FA Cup third round tie at Crawley Town, as suspensions are competition-specific.

The England international had been walking a discinplnary rightrope for Leeds' last three matches after he was booked for the fourth time this term in the 5-2 win over Newcastle United last month.

His midfield partner Mateusz Klich has also had to watch his step in recent weeks, as he also received a fourth yellow against the Magpies, but the Pole managed to get through the Spurs match without a caution from the referee.

The cut-off point for a ban comes after 19 completed Premier League matches, so Klich must get through the home matches against Brighton and Southampton.

Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas both have three yellow cards for the campaign and are Leeds' only other potential suspension risks in the coming matches.
