Leeds United handed good luck charm ahead of crucial Wolves clash

Leeds United may have been handed some luck for Saturday’s match against Wolves with the chosen referee having overseen a run of 10 matches in which the Whites have not lost.

The Whites will be welcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers to Elland Road on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off, and the Premier League announced that the man in charge will be Robert Jones.

The last time Jones was in charge of a Leeds match was a controversial 1-0 win for the Whites over Burnley at Elland Road in December 2020. In that game he awarded Patrick Bamford a penalty in the fifth minute, disallowed a goal scored by Burnley’s Ashley Barnes, dished out three yellow cards to Burnley, and gave Leeds no cards.

Prior to that Premier League clash, Jones was in charge of nine Leeds matches in the Championship, with the referee having only been promoted to the Premier League in 2020. Of those Championship games, Leeds won five and drew four, with Jones handing out 13 yellow cards to Leeds players in total.

The last match he refereed in which Leeds were defeated was a 1-0 loss to Ipswich at Portman Road in January 2018, during which Eunan O’Kane was given a straight red card.
