Leeds United handed first major injury blow of the international break

Leeds United have been handed their first major injury blow of the international break.

Spain have released Diego Llorente from duty after he failed to finish their latest training session on Sunday morning in Madrid.

The 27-year-old was pictured in distress on the national team’s official website and will not travel to Kiev for their match with Ukraine on Tuesday.

Spain did not specify beyond "muscular ailment" as the nature of Llorente's problem.

The Whites have been informed of Llorente’s problem ahead of his return to Thorp Arch, the report states.

Llorente played the full 90 minutes as Spain drew 0-0 with Portugal on Wednesday evening, a game Rodrigo played the first half in before being substituted.

The former Real Sociedad defender is yet to make his Whites debut after arriving later in the window and after Robin Koch and Liam Cooper had established themselves.

Llorente was an unused substitute in the draw with Manchester City last weekend and now has eight days to prove his fitness before Marcelo Bielsa picks his next squad.

Wolverhampton Wanderers visit Elland Road for an 8pm kick-off on Monday, October 19.
