Leeds United handed Edinson Cavani transfer boost as Ryan Edmondson's loan exit explained

Here is your Leeds United digest for Saturday, August 1.

McInnes on Edmondson

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has explained why he swooped to sign Leeds United youngster Ryan Edmondson on loan.

The striker moved north of the border on Friday, joining the Dons on loan until January.

McInnes was full of praise for Edondson's work rate and enthusiasm.

He told Aberdeen's club website: “I’m delighted Ryan is here.

“His eagerness and willingness to come to Aberdeen is really encouraging. He is a player we’ve known about for a while and always felt he had the correct attributes to add to our squad.

“With the injuries to Sam and Curtis we clearly would have been short of two of our key players so I must thank the Board for their co-operation in getting Ryan here, during what is a financially tough period for the Club.

“I’ve no doubt Ryan will have a positive impact during his time with us."

Cavani suitor drops out

Leeds have one less rival in their audacious bid to land Edinson Cavani.

Whites fans were fearful this week when it emerged that Bayern Munich may be interested in the striker, available on a free transfer after leaving PSG.

Yet Bild's head of football, Christian Falk, says that the German giants are out of the running for his signature.

Portuguese club Benfica are still reportedly interest in the Uruguayan.

Frank verdict

Thomas Frank has given his verdict on Pontus Jansson's uncharacteristic error in Brentford's victory over Swansea City.

The former Leeds defender was clearly furious with himself as he stormed off down the tunnel as his teammates celebrated their play-off semi-final win over Swansea City after an error had allowed Rhian Brewster to pull a goal back for the Welsh side and set up a nervy ending.

Frank backed Jansson to bounce back from the mistake.

"Pontus is just happy we are going to the final," Frank said. "Of course he is a very competitive player and he knows he made a mistake so he is angry at himself but that's it.

"Pontus has been fantastic obviously and he is one of the reasons we are one of the two best defences in the division. He has been fantastic and I know he will lead us out on the pitch at Wembley and I'm pretty sure he will make sure we win that."
