Leeds United handed Campana opportunity after La Liga rule change as Gallagher move is discussed

Here is your Leeds United morning digest for Thursday, November 19.

La Liga rule change could see Leeds return for midfield target

Leeds United brought in a couple of players from La Liga over the summer, with club-record signing Rodrigo the club's stand-out arrival.

One man they failed to land, though, is Levante midfielder, Jose Campana.

However, the Whites could be tempted to return for the 27-year-old after the Spanish league’s introduction of new salary cap restrictions.

Should Leeds United replace Kiko Casilla in January?

A number of sides in La Liga will be forced to trim their wage bills and, while Levante won’t be the hardest hit, league president Javier Tebas expects the changes to the regulations to bring about few signings and plenty of sales in January.

"They are now looking to reduce costs. Some clubs will have to sell players or reduce their salaries. There's no other choice," Tebas said, as reported by AP News.

Campana, who spent half a season in England with Crystal Palace in 2013, has been with Levante for four years and is under contract until 2023.

Even if a move for the Spain international is off the cards, there may still be value to be found in La Liga in January.

History shows why Leeds should pursue Gallagher

While Leeds were tentatively linked with a move for Conor Gallagher during the last transfer window, the Chelsea midfielder ultimately ended up joining West Bromwich Albion on loan.

The switch represented a step-up for the youngster, who had yet to play top-flight football before making his Albion league debut against Burnley in October.

After impressing for Charlton Athletic and Swansea City in the Championship last term, the 20-year-old has been able to show similar energy and quality in the Premier League, and it could be enough to convince Leeds to rekindle their interest.

Gallagher has demonstrated his Premier League capabilities already, and may well feel he can turn this into an extended run in Chelsea’s first-team upon his return to Stamford Bridge.

However, if it looks as though his path might be blocked, there’s plenty to suggest Leeds would be smart to come back in for him.

As history shows, Chelsea haven’t been afraid to move Gallagher to new surroundings in the past.

Leeds fans concerned Koch’s Germany nightmare

Robin Koch had a night to forget on Tuesday, playing at centre-back as Germany suffered a 6-0 defeat away to Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

The former Freiburg man played the full 90 minutes as a hat-trick from Manchester City’s Ferran Torres – plus goals from Alvaro Morata, Rodri, and Mikel Oyarzabal – gave the hosts a big victory.

Plenty of Leeds fans had the same reaction after the match, showing their concern for the 24-year-old’s confidence.

In addition to the international setback, Koch was in the middle of Leeds’ defence as they shipped four goals to both Crystal Palace and Leicester City in the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are back in action on Sunday, taking on Arsenal, and also have matches against Everton and Chelsea on the horizon.
