Leeds United handed boost in chase for former Bristol City and Arsenal winger also linked to Sheffield United and previously wanted by Middlesbrough

QPR have rejected a bid from Sheffield United for Luke Freeman.

The Blades were keen on the former Bristol City winger and submitted a £4m at the end of last week.

Yet, according to West London Sport, QPR have turned it down, and seem to want considerably more for the 27-year-old, who was comfortably their best player last season.

Freeman, who joined QPR from the Robins in 2017, looks set to leave Loftus Road this summer, but QPR are holding out until they receive an acceptable bid.

Leeds United are also said to be interested - the Elland Road side need a winger and have reportedly ended their interest in the Robins' Callum O'Dowda.

Middlesbrough were also linked to Freeman last year.

The winger, who came through Gillingham's youth system before spending four years at Arsenal, could well be considered one that got away for the Robins.

He made over 100 league appearances for the club in two-and-a-half years from June 2014 to January 2017, but a contract dispute saw him depart to QPR so that the Robins did not lose him on a free transfer.

Yet he was in good form and, reflecting on the situation a year later, Freeman said he probably would have stayed had a more acceptable deal been offered to him sooner.

He said: "I was waiting over eight months for a contract that was so-called going to be offered to me. When they did it was really nowhere near what anyone else was on.

"So it was out of my hands. I probably wouldn’t have left if they had offered me the contract they said they were going to offer me earlier."
