Leeds United handed blow with £12m Bristol City flop unavailable for Liverpool loan deal

Leeds United have been dealt a transfer blow ahead of opening the season against Bristol City this weekend.

The Robins host a Leeds side on Sunday who have significantly strengthened their attack this summer by signing Helder Costa from Wolves.

Yet they have still been linked with a move for Ryan Kent, who flopped on loan at the Robins in the second half of 2017/18 season.

The Robins were fined by Kent's parent club Liverpool for not playing him enough, and the winger eventually spent last season on loan at Rangers where he revitalised his career.

It has led to interest from Leeds, Rangers and Aston Villa, all of whom have been said to be keen to take Kent on loan this season.

Yet, speaking to the BBC, Klopp said the only way Kent would be leaving this summer is on a permanent deal - which, with Kent valued at £12m by Anfield bosses, is not something Leeds could afford.

Klopp said: "His time is over for loans.

"At the age he is now, he needs to find a place where he can settle. We will see what happens but a loan is not planned.

"He came back as a completely different player and it was a very important year for him.

"It helped being with a good manager, at a good club, with good competition, and it was exactly the right thing for him at the right moment."
