Leeds United handed bad-luck charm as referee for Arsenal clash is confirmed

Anthony Taylor has been appointed as the referee for Leeds United's Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping to see a reaction from his side after they lost both of their matches prior to the international break by a 4-1 scoreline, to Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

The visit of Arsenal isn't the easiest of matches to get back to winning ways, however, and the Gunners already hold a victory over Leeds in 2020 after they won the FA Cup meeting between the two sides 1-0 last season.

Taylor was the man in charge of proceedings that day and he has become somewhat of a bad luck charm for the Whites in recent years.

Should Leeds United replace Kiko Casilla in January?

In the 12 games that Taylor has officiated Leeds, they have only managed to win five of them, losing five others and drawing the remaining two. The Cheshire born official has shown 25 yellow card and four reds in those matches.

He also oversaw the devastating 4-2 defeat to Derby County in the Championship play-offs second-leg in 2019, a match that will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons.

Thankfully, the last match of Leeds Taylor refereed was the 4-3 victory over Fulham earlier this season, though it was the first time the Yorkshire club had won with him in charge for just six days shy of 10 years.

Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn will be the linesmen for the match while, Peter Bankes is the designated fourth official. Stuart Attwell will be in control of VAR with Neil Davies as his assistant.

Leeds will be hoping for no repeat of the VAR controversy that marred their 4-1 defeat at Palace, when Patrick Bamford saw a goal chalked off for offside by the narrowest of margins.
