Leeds United goalkeeper reacts to speculation as radical transfer change proposed

Here is your Leeds United morning digest for Monday, May 4

Goalkeeper reacts to Leeds transfer talk

Leeds United’s on-loan goalkeeper Ilan Meslier wants to sign a long-term deal – if the club is promoted to the Premier League.

The 20-year-old has impressed since he made his debut at Arsenal in the FA Cup and also kept two clean sheets in the last two league games against Hull City and Huddersfield Town.

He retweeted a report from French football website Foot Mercato which suggested the FC Lorient man would sign for Leeds on a permanent basis.

Lorient have been promoted to Ligue 1 next season, but it is understood that Paul Nardi will continue as their first-choice goalkeeper.

However, if they were to remain in the second tier, it could put the future of Kalvin Phillips and Leeds’ other highly-prized assets under threat.

More on that here.

Another season in the Championship may await Leeds

Top-of-the-table Leeds may be denied a place in the Premier League.

BBC Sport said that top flight clubs are agreeable to completing the season at neutral venues – but without the threat of relegation.

That would mean the worst news possible for Leeds, who are looking to return to the Premier League after an absence of 16 years.

Several ideas on how to finish the campaign have been pitched, with some suggesting that the Whites will be automatically promoted.

But others state that promotion from the Championship will not happen. Read the full story here.
