Leeds United given major play-off worry as Sheffield Wednesday send bizarre message

Owls send congratulations

In an unexpected move, Sheffield Wednesday have offered their congratulations to fierce rivals Sheffield United over their promotion.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri posted a statement on the club's website, offering 'warm congratulations' to the Blades.

He said: "We may be rivals but we are friends of the same city that holds such unique tradition in the football world.

"Recognition in the Premier League can only benefit Sheffield and we wish United well, whilst promising our loyal supporters that we will be giving our absolute best to ensure Wednesday will be tasting the same success this time next year."

Laurence Bassini's proposed takeover of Bolton Wanderers will be off if the EFL are not satisfied with his funding proposal.

The former Watford owner is set to meet EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey as he waits for them to approve his deal to buy the stricken club.

Leeds and Villa fall-out

Aston Villa have been handed a boost after Anwar El Ghazi's suspension was overturned.

The Villa star was sent off in Sunday's controversial draw with Leeds after a clash with Patrick Bamford.

Yet replays showed that Bamford had thrown himself to the ground, meaning El Ghazi's suspension has been cleared.

Bamford has, however, been hit with a charge for 'successful deception of a match official', and now faces a ban himself.

The FA allege that his role in getting El Ghazi sent off amounts to improper conduct, and he has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge.
