Leeds United given 10 per cent chance of beating Man City as pundits make predictions

Pundits have not given Leeds United much hope against Man City this weekend.

The Whites take on the Premier League leaders at Elland Road on Saturday to start what looks to be a difficult run of fixtures.

Data modelling website FiveThirtyEight has given Marcelo Bielsa's side just a 10 per cent chance of winning, despite an entertaining 1-1 draw between the two teams earlier in the season. City have been allocated a 74 per cent chance, with the draw at 16 per cent.

It appears most of the pundits agree with the data model's views.

Predicting a 3-0 win to Man City, the BBC's Mark Lawrenson said Leeds will not have enough of the ball to cause problems.

Marcelo Bielsa discusses Rodrigo Moreno's season

"Leeds gave Manchester City a really good game at Elland Road in October but Pep Guardiola's side look like a totally different team these days," he said.

"I know Leeds will be adventurous but I just don't see them having very much of the ball.

"Guardiola can afford to rest whoever he wants before his side go to Borussia Dortmund for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final next Wednesday and I don't think it will make much difference."

BetVictor's Michael Owen has predicted a 4-1 win for Man City, arguing that their Champions League win in midweek would have given them a huge boost.

He said: "The first of a string of tough matches for Leeds starts at the Etihad as they take on champions-elect Manchester City.

"City earned themselves a Champions League win right at the death on Tuesday courtesy of a Phil Foden goal.

"Moments like that can really fill a squad with extra belief, and with City still going in all competitions, it is a real possibility that this group could achieve history between now and the end of the season.

"I expect Leeds to have a go here. Wednesday’s match was hard work for City, so I think Bielsa will plan to run the legs off the home side in the hope they can catch them off guard.

"However, City look unstoppable just now and even if Leeds do manage to nick one, I think the Citizens will have more than enough to seal a comfortable victory."

One pundit who has gone against the grain is Vinnie Jones.

Writing for EasyOdds, the former Whites player stopped short of making a prediction but said he would not be surprised to see Bielsa's side put up a fight.

He said: "Man City are home and hosed surely, but don’t be surprised if Leeds give them a game this weekend.

"Bielsa’s boys are my team of the year already and the beautiful game will definitely be on show for their Saturday lunchtime clash. Both teams are superb on the ball."
