Jean-Kevin Augustin saga ramps up as Leeds United come onto FIFA's radar

Leeds United are not out of the woods just yet on the Jean-Kevin Augustin saga as FIFA confirmed it is now involved in the dispute.

RB Leipzig feel they are owed millions by the Whites after their promotion to the Premier League should have triggered the striker’s permanent switch.

However, United are of the opinion that agreement lapsed on June 30 when Augustin’s loan deal ended and they remained a Championship club.

After months of threats from the German club, the sport’s governing body has finally confirmed it has received a formal claim against the Elland Road outfit.

A FIFA spokesperson told The Athletic: “FIFA can confirm that it has received a claim from RB Leipzig against Leeds United.

“The matter is currently still being investigated and consequently we cannot provide any further comments.”

It remains to be seen which direction the case now takes, but LeedsLive understands United remain confident in their stance on the matter and would back themselves in any formal hearing.

Augustin is now playing with Ligue 1 Nantes, but was in the headlines for the wrong reasons again last week when his current boss said the striker would be out of the team until he got fitter.
