Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford sent Harry Kane message

Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford must 'try and emulate' England captain Harry Kane.

That is the verdict of former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood as Bamford looks to back up an excellent first season back in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old, who recently signed a new five-year deal at Elland Road, scored 17 goals in his first Premier League campaign with Leeds.

The challenge now is for the United forward to back that up this season and Sherwood believes Bamford should look at Kane, who faced a similar challenge following a breakthrough 2014/15 season with Tottenham Hotspur.

"He has to try and emulate Harry Kane," Sherwood said on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday. "Good luck with it. Everybody wrote Harry off after his first season in the Premier League and were asking can he do it again?

"He has continued to do it. They are a similar age and a similar path they have trodden to get into the Premier League.

"He needs to continue to score on a regular basis. He works hard for the side and he will continue to play in the team because of what he gives to the team but he needs some of the guys to help him out."
