Leeds United fans will love Kalvin Phillips' revealing behind-the-scenes England encounter

England's 1-0 win over Austria at the Riverside Stadium was the first of two warm-up matches set to be played by the Three Lions ahead of this summer's European Championships.

Kalvin Phillips was named in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the tournament where England will face Croatia, Scotland and the Czech Republic in Group D, looking to lift their first ever European Championships title.

Bukayo Saka was awarded the Man of Match after his goal proved the difference over the Austrians on Wednesday night, but eagle-eyed viewers of England's tunnel cam will have noticed something in the build-up to the match which will certainly have left Leeds United fans smiling.

Former Leeds United defender Ben White was selected in the preliminary squad, but did not make Southgate's final 26.

Nevertheless the Brighton man made his debut against Austria, and was pictured following closely behind Kalvin Phillips as the players made their way off the team coach and into the underbelly of the Riverside Stadium.

Both Phillips and White greeted the England camera operator, bearing gleeful grins on their faces as they filed into the home dressing room one after the other.

As the England team strolled out for their pre-match warm-up, White and Phillips were separated, with the ex-loanee strutting onto the pitch alongside his new international teammates.

Phillips on the other hand, wearing a thick jacket, took his place on the England bench alongside Jadon Sancho who missed the game with an illness.

This indicates that Southgate's plan to leave Phillips out of action was a pre-meditated one and precautionary, after the shoulder injury sustained against West Bromwich Albion on May 23rd.

White and Phillips' blossoming friendship was an off-field subplot to the Whites' promotion campaign of 2019/20.

To see the pair join up together on international duty is undoubtedly a proud moment for Leeds fans everywhere - one of their own, and one adopted, rubbing shoulders with international elites.

From their off-field activity in recent days, it certainly appears the pair have picked up right where they left off last July.
