Jamie Redknapp believes Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips “makes football look easy” when he plays.
Phillips - who started in England’s Nations League 1-0 defeat to Denmark on Wednesday evening - has brought his fine form from last season into the Premier League.
Such form has earned him back-to-back call-ups from Gareth Southgate, as well as helping his club with their impressive start to the campaign.
The 24-year-old tends to play as the deepest of three central midfielders under Marcelo Bielsa and help bring the ball out from defence.
For England, Phillips has been playing alongside West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice in a double pivot in the centre of the pitch.
The Whites star has shown his ability to play in both roles and he’s impressed Redknapp, who had nothing but praise for the Leeds academy product.
Redknapp said on Sky Sports: “I really like this boy. I like the way he plays; he’s super smooth on the ball, he’s not fazed.
“I always look at midfielders, and when they look like they’ve got time on the ball, for me, they’re doing the right thing because sometimes everyone looks a little bit flustered. But the game, he makes it look easy.
“He’s full of confidence, he’s got a manager in Bielsa who demands excellence, he demands hard work.”
Phillips will return to the Leeds camp over the next few days and is likely to start the side’s home game against Wolves on Monday.
