Leeds United supporters are not massive fans of the concept of Steven Gerrard one day succeeding Marcelo Bielsa as the club's manager.
Bielsa has done extraordinary things in the two-and-a-half-years he has been in charge at Elland Road. The Argentine has galvanised the fan base, revolutionised the style of play and, of course, taken Leeds back to the Premier League for the first time in 16-years.
However, all good things must come to an end and there's a quiet understanding that Bielsa probably won't stay with the club for a particularly lengthy spell.
The Whites boss is only committed to the club until the end of the season after signing a new one-year deal in September, following the expiration of his previous contract of the same length
While the higher-ups at Leeds will undoubtedly want Bielsa to stay for as long as possible, it's always smart to have a back-up plan close to hand. According to Football Insider, Leeds are “always” running the rule over managers in case they lose their man in the hot seat, and that Gerrard is a 'prime contender' to be the next man in charge.
The Liverpool icon took over at Rangers in 2018 and, although he is yet to win a trophy with the Glasgow giants, he has impressed with how his team have played, especially in Europe, and how close they have pushed the wealthier Celtic to the Scottish title.
In fact, the Gers currently have a nine point lead over their great rivals and have a great chance of ending Celtic's march to a 10th successive league win.
Despite Gerrard's clear potential, Leeds fans would be wary about handing him the reigns as he remains unexperienced. They would also rather see a disciple of Bielsa be the next manager to keep his methods alive when he eventually departs.
"I think the club will need another world class manager , as proven by Bielsa .. I admit I liked Gerrard as a player, but I don’t think he will have the experience just yet , to be able to cope with the club and fans expectations," one fan wrote on Facebook.
While another added: "I think the next manager will be somebody in Bielsa's school who can work along similar lines as him, continuity is more important than big names to Leeds in their current stage of growth."
A supporter echoed the statement by saying: "I would have thought our next coach will be someone Bielsa has recommended," while another was even harsher of the suggestion of Gerrard and said: "What a backwards step if they went for Gerrard, he’s the sort of manager Cellino would go for and they’ve moved on from that era."
Finally, another support believes that it's Gerrard who wouldn't go for the job: "Can’t see it, his ambition will be to replace Klopp."
