Leeds United fans make Paul Heckingbottom comment after Leicester City thrash Sheffield United

Leeds United fans have been taking great delight at the expense of former boss Paul Heckingbottom and Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.

Heckingbottom had a brief and ill-fated spell in charge at Elland Road in 2018 before being replaced by current head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Bielsa went on to inspire Leeds to promotion from the Championship and his team are currently sitting comfortably in 12th place in the Premier League table in their first season back in the top flight.

In stark contrast, the Blades are rock bottom and heading for relegation, languishing 14 points adrift of safety with only nine fixtures remaining.

Did Marcelo Bielsa feel the point was justified against Chelsea?

They officially parted company with manager Chris Wilder on Saturday evening, with the club's under-23 coach Heckingbottom stepping up to replace him at the helm for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign.

It was a nightmare start for the ex-Barnsley and Hibernian chief, however, as the Blades began life after Wilder with a 5-0 thrashing against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Kelechi Iheanacho bagged a hat-trick, with Ayoze Perez also on target and Ethan Ampadu turning a Jamie Vardy cross into his own net to compound the visitors' misery.

Leeds supporters, though, had little sympathy for Heckingbottom or the Blades, who visit Elland Road on April 3.

"To be fair took Leeds about six weeks to convert to Bielsa ball," said one fan on Twitter. "It’s only taken a couple of days for Heckinbottom to impose his style on the Blunts."

Another tweeted: "Good old Heckingbottom! Done well there! Sheff U haven’t lost 5-0 under wilder, he comes in and shows him how it’s done! Heck ball worked a dream there! Hope Leeds send them down!"

Meanwhile, a third fan said: "Sheffield United got zero new manager bounce, this is an embarrassing performance. It’s going to be a long day for them when they come to Elland Road."

Heckingbottom's first in charge and the Blades' latest defeat is the first time since November 2017 that Sheffield United had conceded five in the league.
