Danny Mills has warned Leeds United fans the club cannot finish in the top 10 of the Premier League despite an encouraging start against Liverpool.
Marcelo Bielsa's side were edged out by the reigning champions 4-3 at Anfield in a game where they went toe-to-toe with the best team in the country.
The fearless approach taken at Anfield has left supporters and the media signing the club's praises despite leaving Merseyside empty-handed.
After such a bright opening weekend, there have been claims that Leeds will be nowhere near the relegation zone this season and can aim for the top half of the table.
However, former defender Mills has urged Leeds fans to be realistic with their ambitions for the club's first season back in the big time for 16 years and believes a top 10 finish is out of reach.
"We need to be realistic with Leeds – they can’t finish in the Top 10 this season," Mills told GentingBet.
"If they can finish 15th or 16th and be safe with five or six games to go then I think most fans, and certainly the club, will take that immediately. I've seen Leeds a lot over the last two seasons.
"I've seen what they put out. I've seen the quality of the players they have, and they've added quality to that. Ben White is a big loss because he was an exceptional player but they’ve brought in Robin Koch, who I think will be a good addition, while Rodrigo will add some firepower.
"They put Liverpool under all sorts of pressure, they dominated possession and they scored some goals although they did make some errors that they need to cut out if they are going to go on and have a successful season.
"But I love the way that they continue to play exactly the same way as they have done for the last two seasons. It's what Bielsa does. He plays high press high tempo, plays out from the back.
"When you look at it, Guardiola is his disciple, he absolutely loves him and he's always on the phone with him. It is the same philosophy for both of them - if Plan A doesn't work, do plan A better.
"The answer is exactly the same. There is no plan B. They very rarely accommodate the opposition, they just understand they need to be better at what they do."
