Leeds United fans send Patrick Bamford message to Gareth Southgate after win at Fulham

Leeds United fans have told England boss Gareth Southgate he was wrong to overlook Patrick Bamford.

Bamford missed out on a maiden senior international call-up this week as Southgate opted to draft in Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins for the first time.

But the Leeds striker sent a message to Southgate by scoring a goal and setting one up as Marcelo Bielsa's men beat Fulham 2-1 in Friday night's Premier League clash at Craven Cottage.

Bamford opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark, neatly turning in a low centre from Jack Harrison - his 14th goal of the season.

However, Bamford provided a fine assist for Raphinha to score the winner in the 58th minute.

The result took up to 11th in the table and on to 39 points from 29 games - now 13 points clear of the drop zone.

It also ended their long run without a victory in London.

After the match, Leeds supporters took to social media to give their thoughts.

"Hey Southgate, that’s a goal and an assist for our man," said one on Twitter.

Another tweeted: "Are you watching Gareth Southgate?"

Meanwhile, a third fan added: "I'd like to think Southgate is saving Bamford for the Euros."

Bamford had limped off during last weekend's goalless draw with Chelsea after sustaining a hip injury.

He was passed fit to start at Fulham and got through 77 minutes before being replaced by Mateusz Klich.
