Leeds United fans send clear message about the club's star performer after standout display

Leeds United continued their winless start to the season as they drew 1-1 with Steve Bruce's Newcastle at St James' Park on Friday.

They took an early lead through a Raphinha cross which evaded Karl Darlow but the match didn't follow the script as the Whites failed to convert a 1-0 lead into a win.

Allan Saint-Maximin caused Leeds all sorts of problems and the game ended with a total of 38 shots. Newcastle had 17 of those, with Illan Meslier called into action to make saves on seven occasions.

The French goalkeeper made a couple of strong stops from Saint-Maximin efforts but the pick of the bunch came against Joelinton in the first-half, as the forward looked destined to score from close range before Meslier's foot kept the ball out.

Due to this, Leeds fans have rated their goalkeeper as the top performer in the game on Leeds Live's post-match poll. His average rating of 7.4 saw him just edge out Raphinha on 7.2.

The Brazilian winger put Leeds ahead in the first half but was also Bielsa's side's most dangerous attacking threat in the first half, causing Matt Ritchie a myriad of issues.

However, he faded in the second half as Leeds couldn't exert the same control that they had in the opening period. He was then substituted on 67 minutes, with Bielsa revealing he was suffering from a thigh issue after the match.

Sharing the third highest rating were midfielders Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo. It would have been particularly pleasing for Leeds fans to see Rodrigo performing well given his tough start to the season, which has seen him substituted at half-time twice. Against the Magpies he was full of attacking intent and created a good chance for Patrick Bamford in the second half which the England striker couldn't convert. This saw Leeds fans rate his performance as a 7.1 alongside Phillips.

At the bottom of the rankings, Leeds fans were not impressed by Tyler Roberts' spell on the right wing as he was given an average rating of 4.4.

Leeds host West Ham United at Elland Road this Saturday as they bid to pick up their first win of the season at their sixth attempt.
