Leeds United fans saying the same thing as Kalvin Phillips handed England call-up

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been called up to the England squad for the first time in his career.

Gareth Southgate named his 24-man squad for the Three Lions’ upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark next month.

Phillips enjoyed a spectacular season in the Championship for the Whites last time out and his form has been rewarded with his first-ever senior call-up to the national side.

The 24-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions for Leeds last season - scoring two goals and becoming a figurehead in the middle of the pitch.

Leeds supporters have been reacting to the news that Phillips could make his England debut next month, and are unsurprisingly delighted with the announcement.

Former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson was the last Leeds player to play for England at the same time they were at Elland Road.

That was back in 2003 - where England call-ups were a bit more of a regular occurence - with the likes of Lee Bowyer, Robbie Fowler, Alan Smith, Danny Mills and Rio Ferdinand also getting places in the squad at the same sort of time.

With Leeds now back in the Premier League, England call-ups will hopefully become more frequent for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
