Leeds United fans say same thing about ex-Man United man Wayne Rooney, Derby and guard of honour

Leeds United are champions of the Championship.

Without kicking a ball the Whites secured promotion to the Prmeier League on Friday night thanks to West Brom's defeat to Huddersfield Town.

And Leeds have now been crowned champions of the Championship - again without kicking a ball.

Brentford failed to beat Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, meaning they, like the Baggies, can no longer catch Leeds United at the top of the table.

Leeds players and supporters were expecting to have to do the business on the pitch themselves, in a grudge match against Derby County on Sunday afternoon.

But that is no longer the case, and Leeds can enjoy their afternoon without any pressure on their shoulders.

Leeds and Derby do have quite the history, with the two clubs involved in the Marcelo Bielsa spy-gate affair last season, before Frank Lampard's Rams then got the better of the Whites in the play-off semi-final.

But, with Leeds confirmed as champions, there will be a carnival atmosphere for the players and they will be welcomed onto the pitch by a guard of honour, as is customary, from the Derby players - which would include a Manchester United legend in Wayne Rooney.

And that will make the whole occasion all the sweeter for the Leeds fans watching on at home.

Not only will it be Derby giving them the guard of honour, but Rooney will be involved too.

What a season!
