Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is an England international.
The midfielder was named in the starting lineup for the UEFA Nations League clash against Denmark, being replaced by Jack Grealish after 76 minutes.
His form for Leeds in a memorable Championship season, where the Whites earned promotion to the Premier League, caught the eye of Gareth Southgate, who included the midfielder in the Three Lions’ squad ahead of the fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.
Phillips was an unused substitute in the game vs Iceland, a match in which England came out as narrow 1-0 winners thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Raheem Sterling.
Despite picking up the three points, the performance was criticised, and Southgate responded by making changes against Denmark.
Phillips lined up in midfield alongside West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, in front of a back three of Eric Dier, Connor Coady, and Joe Gomez.
However, the game ended in a 0-0 draw with the performance of the team again coming under criticism and the best chances of the game falling to Denmark.
And, despite seeing their midfielder make his debut for England, watching Leeds fans weren’t happy with the way he was used in the international set-up.
Phillips was a key part of Leeds’ promotion-winning team last season, playing a total of 40 times in all competitions scoring two goals.
It won’t be long until the midfielder is back in action again, with Leeds kicking off their return to the Premier League by taking on Liverpool at Anfield.
He will be hoping to get another chance in an England shirt next month when England take on Wales, Belgium, and Denmark.
