Leeds United fans point out Rodrigo example as Marcelo Bielsa makes Daniel James decision

By Elliott Jackson

Leeds United fans have voiced their excitement to see Daniel James from the bench after Marcelo Bielsa opted to resist the temptation of handing a full debut, whilst issuing their support for Rodrigo Moreno.

The winger arrived from Manchester United on transfer deadline day and with uncertainty over Raphinha's availability dominating the pre-match discourse, James was the most likely replacement.

However, with Raphinha cleared to feature for Leeds, he starts on the right-hand side, with Jack Harrison maintaining his place down the opposite flank.

Rodrigo remains the most advanced of the midfield cast to support Patrick Bamford ahead of Mateusz Klich, with Stuart Dallas and Kalvin Phillips patrolling ahead of the defence.

Whilst some supporters have questioned the form of Rodrigo, others have pointed to Bielsa's vindicated support of Patrick Bamford as a reason to continue backing the out-of-form Spaniard.

Pascal Struijk is replaced by Junior Firpo to allow Dallas back into midfield, with Leeds shuffling back to a four-man defence.

On whether James would start against Liverpool, Bielsa said in his pre-match press conference: "I think the decision to bring in James was the correct one by the club. He will be available this weekend - he's a player who can play on either side that combines his ability to unbalance the opponent. He passages into the empty spaces, considering his speed.

"To begin with, they play the same function. They are wide players who can play on the right or the left.

"They are players who develop the game well out wide which is not an easy task and throughout the season it is always necessary to have three or four players for one or two positions. And to have added James and kept Summerville, it gives us a good panorama of options."
