Leeds United fans were quick to spot something odd in Sky Sports’ coverage of the Championship clash with Stoke City – and they weren’t left too happy.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side look to be moving a step closer to their long-awaited promotion back to the Premier League after making light work of the Potters at Elland Road.
The Whites cruised to a 5-0 win, with Mateusz Klich’s penalty putting the hosts in front just before the break before Helder Costa, Liam Cooper, Pablo Hernandez and Patrick Bamford rounded things off in the second half.
It was a dominant performance from United, who could easily have won by an even more handsome scoreline against Michael O’Neill’s struggling side.
The victory means the Whites are now just seven points away from returning to the top flight, with four games remaining this season.
Despite cruising to victory in their latest run-out though, it seems whoever was in charge of the crowd noise during Sky Sport’s coverage wasn’t quite paying attention.
A number of Leeds fans picked up on what sounded like the “Leeds are falling apart” chant being played multiple times during the first half at Elland Road.
Games are of course being played behind closed doors amid the coronavirus pandemic, meaning all the atmosphere heard during games has been pre-recorded.
And even though Leeds were being held by their opponents during much of the first half, it perhaps wasn’t the best choice of chant, given how dominant the hosts were in search of their opener.
The chant was heard during last season's run-in when they dropped out of the top two before losing to Derby County in the playoff semi-finals - although Leeds fans do like to chant it ironically in any match where they come from behind.
Supporters will hope they don’t have to hear the chant again, and that it won’t come true again this season.
