Leeds United fans join together for heartwarming Norman Hunter lockdown tribute

Leeds United are in mourning, after the club announced the Norman Hunter died on Friday morning.

The club icon was last week admitted to hospital after testing positive for coronavirus and sadly passed away at the age of 76.

Fans, players past and present and the footballing world as a whole have been paying their tributes to Whites legend, who turned out 726 times for the club and was a key part of the Leeds' golden age in the 1960s and '70s.

With the country on lockdown for the foreseeable future, Leeds fans will not be able to gather at Elland Road and pay tributes in person, but a move to remember the club icon has gathered momentum on social media.

Fans across the world have begun to hand up their Leeds scarfs out of windows and posting photos on Twitter, alongside the hashtag #HangYourScarvesForNorman.

Countless posts have been made across the social network as supporters move to pay their respects.

Leeds United chief executive Angus Kinnear also paid tribute to Hunter on the club's website and promised that fans will be able to pay their respects, when conditions allow.

"Rest assured, once it is safe to do so, we will find a suitable way for fans to commemorate Norman and celebrate his life," he said.

"Leeds United will never forget Norman Hunter, he will always be in our hearts."
