Leeds United fans issue verdict on 'quality' Niall Huggins debut in Arsenal defeat

Leeds United fans were full of praise for Niall Huggins' performance in his senior debut against Arsenal.

The Whites suffered a 4-2 defeat to the Gunners and were 3-0 down by half-time in a poor first-half performance.

It was 4-0 shortly after the break as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completed a hat-trick, with Huggins being brought on for his professional debut in the 53rd minute.

The 20-year-old, along with fellow subs Tyler Roberts and Helder Costa, put in a promising performance that inspired Leeds to come close to an unlikely comeback with goals from Pascal Struijk and Costa.

As it was, the Whites suffered defeat, but fans were delighted by Huggins' impact.

The full-back penned a contract until 2023 in December, having been included in Marcelo Bielsa's travelling party for the Whites' game against Everton at Goodison Park in the week prior to his new deal.

Since then, Huggins has featured as an unused sub in games against Spurs, Everton and Crystal Palace before eventually making his debut at the Emirates.

He has also put in some strong performances for Leeds' under-23s side this season in what looks to be a promising set of youngsters coming through into the senior set-up at Elland Road.

Speaking about Leeds' performance on Sky Sports, pundit Graeme Souness argued they deserved more for their second-half performance, despite conceding three goals in the first half.

He said: " It’s hard because Arsenal were so good in the first-half. They were the best team in the second-half, Leeds, but big decisions have gone against them, I think.

"I definitely think Bamford deserved a penalty."
