Leeds United fans headbutt Manchester United supporter in pub attack during Derby County match

A group of Leeds United fans were filmed appearing to headbutt a Manchester United supporter during an attack at a pub in East Riding.

Footage emerged online which showed a number of men wearing Leeds shirts telling a man at The Steam Packet pub in Cheviot Avenue, Goole, to "f*** off home".

The incident, which happened during Leeds United's 3-1 victory over Derby County on Sunday afternoon, was streamed live on Facebook in a 12-minute video.

As reported by our sister title Hull Live, one drinker was filmed asking the Man United fan to put his jumper on before appearing to threaten him.

He could be heard saying: "If you've got a problem with that, do you want to come out here?

"I've asked you nicely."

The man covered up his red jersey as the Leeds fan is begged by a friend to avoid spoiling what should have been a day of celebration.

The man holding the camera is later heard saying: "How can you do that though? Come in a pub with a f****** Man U shirt on. F****** scum."

The Manchester United fan was with a small group of his own friends, including one Leeds supporter. Another held his hands up as he tried to walk through the crowd to leave, however, was met with the group pushing him back.

A man was then headbutted as the situation intesified. He was restrained but then could be seen ripping his shirt off.

Women and children could be heard screaming throughout the venue, as one young boy pleaded with his bare-chested dad to not get involved - he did not seem to listen to his son.

Staff behind the bar could be heard ringing the last orders bell and the landlord later confirmed that staff were ordered not to get involved - however, the police were called.

"The police were called to an incident within the pub by ourselves, due to large number of people in one place and public disorder taking place," a spokesman for the pub said in a statement shared online on Sunday.

"As a landlord and an employer of staff, I was not willing to ask my staff to or involve myself to move a large group of individuals due to possible problems this may have caused, hence the reason the police were called to diffuse the situation on our behalf."

Police statement

Confirming their involvement, a spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "Officers attended a public house on Cheviot Avenue in Goole on Sunday, July 19, at around 5.45pm following reports that there was a disturbance inside the pub.

"Upon our arrival, within minutes of the initial call, the incident was no longer in progress, those allegedly involved had left the premises and no one reported any offences or injuries.

"In addition to this we later received a call from a member of the public reporting that a video of the incident was circulating on social media.

"This video will be viewed and to establish if any offences can be identified."
