The four transfer targets Leeds United fans have in mind to boost the squad when the window opens in January

We're almost a third of the way into the Championship season, and Leeds United sit just outside the top two.

But things are ridiculously tight; third-placed Leeds are only missing out on the automatic promotion places on goal difference and are only two points off table toppers West Bromwich Albion.

The consensus seems to be that United’s overall play has been very good this year, but just let down in one key area - finishing. That’s something backed up by the stats.

Naturally, thoughts are starting to turn to the January reinforcements, with about eight weeks to go until the transfer window reopens midway through the season.

Last season, Aston Villa brought in Tyrone Mings on loan from Bournemouth, a player that would prove pivotal to their eventual promotion, while Leeds tried and failed to sign Daniel James from Swansea.

We asked Leeds fans on the Leeds United Live Facebook page and received a variety of interesting responses, with most fans focusing on rectifying that finishing issue with Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle.

Here are the names that came up most often.

Dwight Gayle - Newcastle United

Malcolm Cooper: Gayle and another CB for cover.

Jack Buik: Gayle and CA

Warren Brown: Jermain Defoe or Gayle from Newcastle and a Centre Back to replace liability that is Cooper

Peter Roberts: Anyone who can score 20 plus and a good defender

James Milner - Liverpool

Mark Eddleston: Buy Milner twice MOT

Andrew Smith: Too important to Liverpool. Maybe at end of season

Alix Timmins: Already said they're not renewing his contract and he said he wants to play for us before retirement, so fingers crossed lads

Bradley Dack - Blackburn Rovers

Dorian Wathen: How about a cheeky bid for Bradley Dack?

Nick Alder: Haven’t Blackburn slapped about 15mil on him? Unfortunately

Dorian Wathen: Not sure if that has changed. He prob wants to go and has a year left on his contract. Could be a good time plus need a long term replacement for Pablo.

Ben White - Brighton & Hove Albion (permanent)

Ryan Larter: Permanent signing of Ben White. That is all. Just buy. The man's oozes class.

Joe Jo: No chance. Brighton know what they have in Ben White. Premier League money needed to tear him away.
