A motion to scrap pay-per-view broadcasts could be tabled at a Premier League meeting on Thursday.
The Telegraph report that a number of clubs are keen to pull the plug on the service following the announcement of a second lockdown in England.
Pay-per-view has been a controversial introduction that has seen many fans boycott broadcasts in favour of donating money to charity.
Whilst average viewing figures of around 39,000 per match are said to be marginally above the Premier League’s target, clubs are reportedly wary of the PR headache that will come with charging fans extra money during a second lockdown.
It had been agreed that the £14.95 price would be continued until the November international break, but plans to discuss this will now be brought forward to Thursday.
The deal looks set to either be reduced by £5 or even scrapped, with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Leicester City all speaking out against the service.
BT Sport and Sky Sports are both reportedly happy to see the scheme scrapped in exchange for showing matches to subscribers at no extra cost.
A move to show every game at no extra fee would mirror the Premier League’s decision to do similar during Project Restart last season - although some matches were also shown for free on BBC and Amazon Prime.
Currently, there are five matches scheduled to be shown behind a paywall next weekend ahead of the international break.
That includes Leeds United against Crystal Palace.
Yet a decision to scrap pay-per-view could well see these matches made available to fans at no extra cost ahead of the planned review later in November.
